Hacking Facebook accounts through a wireless connection is simple, but of course only if you are under the same WiFi or under the same network.
You will need
- Firesheep [Download]
- Mac OS X: 10.5 or newer on an Intel processor.
- Windows: XP or newer. Install Winpcap first!
- Firefox: 3.6.12 or newer. 32-bit only. Firefox 4.x beta not supported.
You will be basically sniffing the "secure" information on an unprotected public WiFi network.
Once Firesheep is installed it will open a sidebar window into your firefox browser. Then you will be able to see al the people who are connected to unsecured wifi network. Once they login into their facebook account you will get a notification and with a single click will be able to log in into their account.
This whole thing work on the technique of cookie hijacking. Once your session cookie is hacked then anybody can login into your account.
How to protect
Now the best way to protect against this - is not to use public WiFi. Second best - to encrypt all your personal information with HTTPS Everywhere [Direct Download] (more info about HTTPS Everywere https://www.eff.org)
